Holding Down the Fort

Join us at the Fort Plain Museum & Historical Park on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 12-5 PM for Holding Down the Fort, the Frontier Women Save Fort Plain. We have a wide variety of events going on throughout the day. The Museum is located at 389 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339

*1pm Guest Speaker Wayne Lenig -"The Year of the Burning: Joseph Brant's Canajohary Raid - August 2, 1780" - Wayne takes a step back in history as he explains the heroic story, and the fight in the frontier for survival.
*3pm Guest Speaker Phil Weaver - "Henry Defendorff: A Very Intelligent Man" - If the Canajohary District's Henry Defendorff was not a spy during the American Revolution, he was the closest thing to it. Weaver follows Defendoff's wartime adventures and his life as an Officer of the Continental Army.
*Free Museum Admission to all Women in honor of the Women "Holding Down the Fort"
*Hilltop Tours given by Norm Bollen/Chairman of the Fort Plain Museum
*Cannon and Musket Demonstrations through out the day courtesy of 1st Tryon County Militia.
*Colonial Encampment/Reenactors
*Lori Mead - Herbs of Yesterday and Today - Explore the Herbs that were used by Natives and Colonials, including their usage and how we still use them today.
