Due to unfortunate circumstances, this conference is being postponed to 2022. Those who are registered, will receive an email from us with further information. Please do not register for 2022 if you already are for 2021.

Sir William Johnson and the Wars for Empire Conference includes 9 speakers and a bus tour. David L. Preston, an award-winning historian of American military history and author of Braddock’s Defeat: The Battle of the Monongahela and the Road to Revolution is the conference’s Head of Faculty.

Major General William Johnson's Victory, September 8, 1755 - Bus Tour - October 21, 2022

Johnson's victory on September 8, 1755 was a significant event in the first year of the French & Indian War. It garnered evocative recognition for the Mohawk Valley resident. Our tour will visit each site associated with this important battle: Bloody Morning Scout, the Lake George Battlefield and Bloody Pond. Time permitting, we expect to visit Johnson's home, Fort Johnson on our return from the battlefield. Lunch will be provided at the Lake George Battlefield Park.

Sir William Johnson was a larger than life character who dominated the Mohawk Valley and beyond during the 18th century in warfare, politics, trade and diplomacy. This conference will address aspects of Johnson’s historical impact as well as the larger scope of the great wars for empire. This new Fort Plain Museum conference will offer a look at the colonial era when major personalities, like Sir William, dealt with overlapping cultures and the impact of war on society.
